MSPlanning have been successful in overturning the Planning Committee’s refusal at the their appeal to the Minister, therefore allowing Les Ormes Leisure Village's proposal for a major development of 58 self-catering units to replace the former sports hall. The Planning Inspector concurred with the comprehensive and forensic case made by Michael Stein and Anthony Farman in rebutting each reason for refusal and explaining the many merits of the scheme. Mike Graham, Les Ormes' chief operating officer, was naturally delighted with the result and thanked Michael and Anthony for their excellent performance at the Appeal Hearing as clearly much work and preparation had gone into it and which certainly helped persuade the Planning Inspector of the merits of the scheme, and for her to recommend it, and which recommendation the Minister duly followed. He stated "I think our whole appeal approach was outstanding and your lead on the day could not have been better."

As an amendment to the Government Plan, the States Assembly has this week approved one-off £300,000 funding for tree preservation initiatives, plus on-going £75,000 p.a.

The amendment was lodged by the Connetable of St Brelade, who considers the present arrangements as unsatisfactory, with the current list of protected trees having just 69 entries.

Comprehensive tree survey and a specialist Government staff resource are therefore imminent.
